Affordable Clean Energy for All Coalition ( www.fixthecostshift.com) is a coalition of diverse interests including seniors, environmental, faith-based, small business, environmental, community and clean energy organizations, as well as the IOUs . It submitted a letter to the Commissioners expressing support for changes to the state's NEM program.
- Changes are need to ensure the long-term sustainability of rooftop solar and storage in CA and to ensure that ALL customers contribute equitably to the cost of the grid. Currently this is not the case and those least able to pay are assuming an unfair burden.
- Customers without solar systems pay $2.8 billion more annually (up to $200/year per customer) in their bills to make up for the costs of the grid that solar customers use but do not pay for.
- Solar + battery systems must be incentivized over solar alone.
- The cost of solar systems has dropped 70% but the incentives paid to customers are tied to retail rates and continue to increase.
